Basketball Recap: Liberty Takes Loss Despite Strong Efforts from Samira Gantt and Lindsay Thompson

On Monday, the Liberty Lancers were within striking distance but couldn't close the gap as they fell 54-48 to the Widefield Gladiators. The Lancers have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Despite the loss, Liberty had strong showings from Lindsay Thompson, who went 6 of 8 on her way to 12 points and six boards, and Samira Gantt, who posted 19 points and four steals. Gantt is on a roll when it comes to steals, as she's now grabbed two or more in the last seven games she's played. The team also got some help courtesy of Olivia Wilson, who put up four points in addition to eight rebounds and six assists.

Isabella Monk continued her habit of posting crazy stat lines for Widefield, going 11 of 22 on her way to 29 points along with six boards and five steals. That makes it five consecutive games in which Monk has scored at least a third of Widefield's points. Olivia McEwen was another key player, putting up five points and four steals.

Liberty's defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 5-3. As for Widefield, they moved to 4-6 with that win, which also ended their four-game losing streak.

Liberty didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 72-30 loss against Air Academy on the 7th. As for Widefield, they also wasted no time getting back out on the court and have already played their next match, a 50-25 victory against Pueblo Central on the 9th.
