The Head-Royce Jayhawks are taking a road trip to take on the St. Joseph Notre Dame Pilots at 4:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
Head-Royce came into their game on Thursday off a hard-fought close win, but unfortunately suffered a serious change of fortune. They came up short against Saint Mary's, falling 9-2. The defeat continues a trend for the Jayhawks in their meetings with the Panthers: they've now lost five in a row.
Head-Royce saw five different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Elena Krauss, who went 1-for-3 with two RBI.
Meanwhile, St. Joseph Notre Dame never let their opponents score on Thursday. Everything went their way against University as they made off with a 20-0 victory. The result was nothing new for the Pilots, who have now won nine contests by ten runs or more so far this season.
Lexi Roben and Cassandra Sanchez were major factors while hitting and pitching. On the mound, Roben tossed 1.1 innings while giving up no earned runs or hits. Meanwhile, Sanchez struck out eight batters over 3.2 innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. She has been nothing but reliable on the mound: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in seven consecutive appearances. At bat, Roben went 2-for-4 with two runs, one stolen base, and two RBI, while Sanchez went a perfect 3-for-3 with one home run, six RBI, and four runs. That's the most runs Sanchez has posted since back in March.
In other batting news, Reagan Bowman and Alana Sadie did most of the damage at the plate: Bowman got on base in all four of her plate appearances with four runs, while Sadie went 2-for-3 with four runs and one RBI. That's the most runs Bowman has posted since back in March. The team also got some help courtesy of Safah Hashemi, who went 2-for-5 with three RBI and one run.
St. Joseph Notre Dame always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .684. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
St. Joseph Notre Dame is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last seven matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-5 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.0 runs on average over those games. As for Head-Royce, their loss dropped their record down to 2-6.
