Basketball Recap: Washington County Victorious

After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Blue Valley, Washington County was happy to have turned things around on Friday. They had just enough and edged the Onaga Buffaloes out 51-49. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest win the Tigers have posted since December 10, 2024.

Washington County found their leader in freshman Chayse Gross, who dropped a double-double with 16 points and ten boards. Gross has become a key player for Washington County: the team is 2-1 when he posts at least ten rebounds, but 1-13 otherwise. Another player making a difference was Gavyn Leduc, who posted 11 points along with eight boards and three steals.

Washington County's victory was their first in the district, bumping their district record up to 1-8 and their overall record up to 3-14. As for Onaga, their loss was their 17th straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 2-15.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. A feisty cat fight will be fought as the Tigers duke it out with the Wildcats at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Onaga, they will be playing in front of their home fans against Doniphan West at 4:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
