Baseball Recap: St. Bernard Finds Home Field Redemption Against Lyman Memorial

There's no place like home for St. Bernard, who bounced back after a loss on the road on Wednesday. Their pitchers stepped up to hand the Lyman Memorial Bulldogs a 7-0 shutout on Wednesday. The Saints not only won on Wednesday, but they posted their biggest win since April 17th (when they won 14-0).

Desmond Powers made a big impact no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit while striking out seven over five innings pitched. He has been nothing but reliable: he hasn't given up a single earned run in four consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-3 with two RBI, one run, and one double. Those two RBI gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Anthony Demarco, who went a perfect 4-for-4 with two RBI and one run. Those four hits gave him a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Johnny Lazarou, who went 1-for-3 with two runs and one stolen base.

St. Bernard's win bumped their record up to 5-11. As for Lyman Memorial, they have been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 3-7 record this season.

St. Bernard will head out on the road to take on Woodstock Academy at 5:00 p.m. on Friday. The last five games the Centaurs have played have been within two runs, so don't be surprised if it's a close one. As for Lyman Memorial, they will look to defend their home field on Friday against Griswold at 4:00 p.m.
