Soccer Game Preview: Fleming Island vs. Clay

The Fleming Island Golden Eagles and the Clay Blue Devils will compete for holiday cheer at 7:30 p.m. on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Fleming Island came up short against Ponte Vedra and fell 4-2. While losing is never fun, the Golden Eagles can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Florida soccer rankings (they are ranked 106th, while the Sharks are ranked first).

Meanwhile, Clay waltzed into their game on Monday with three straight wins... but they left with four. They never let the Panthers onto the board and left with an 8-0 victory. Give the Blue Devils' defense some credit: that's the team's fourth straight shutout.

Clay's win was their fourth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 6-3-1. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they scored 20 goals over those four matchups. As for Fleming Island, their loss dropped their record down to 4-6.
