Basketball Recap: Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart Falls Despite Big Games from Sophie Stoltz and Josie Watts

Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart lost against Georgetown Visitation Prep back in January of 2023 and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The match between the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart Gators and the Georgetown Visitation Prep Cubs didn't end well, with the Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart Gators falling 62-48. The Gators were down 50-30 at the end of the third quarter, which was just too much to recover from.

Josie Watts and Sophie Stoltz certainly did their best on Saturday to avoid the loss. Watts went 6 for 13 to rack up 19 points along with five rebounds and three steals, while Stoltz went 6 of 15 on her way to 15 points in addition to five boards and four steals. Watts' afternoon made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least 15 points. Another player making a difference was Ava Brady, who posted eight points.

Georgetown Visitation Prep got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was Alyssa Fitzgerald out in front who went 6 for 12 en route to 19 points and three steals. Jocelyn Gill was another key player, dropping a double-double on 12 points and ten boards.

Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart has been struggling recently as they've lost three of their last four contests, which put a noticeable dent in their 13-8 record this season. As for Georgetown Visitation Prep, they are on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games, which provided a nice bump to their 14-8 record this season.

Both squads will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Stone Ridge School of the Sacred Heart will venture away from home to challenge Madeira at 5:45 p.m. on Tuesday.
