Baseball Recap: Greeley West Starts Season with Victory on the Road

Greeley West had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They came out on top against the Gateway Olympians by a score of 8-4 on Saturday. The victory was a breath of fresh air for the Spartans as it put an end to their 11-game losing streak dating back to last season.

Owen Wildt looked comfortable as he tossed three innings while giving up no earned runs off three hits.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Beau Schaller, who scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. The team also got some help courtesy of Enrique Martinez, who went 3-for-5 with four RBI and one double.

Gateway is on a five-game losing streak (dating back to last season) that has dropped them down to 0-2.

Coming up, Greeley West will venture away from home to face off against Northridge at 3:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Gateway, they will face off against Lincoln at 4:00 p.m. on March 17th.
