Baseball Game Preview: Durham Trojans vs. Los Molinos Bulldogs

The Durham Trojans will take on the Los Molinos Bulldogs in a tournament on Saturday. Los Molinos took a loss in their last matchup and will be looking to turn the tables on Durham, who comes in off a win.

Durham barely beat Biggs the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Trojans' pitchers stepped up to hand the Wolverines a 10-0 shutout on Friday. The high-scoring effort was just what the Trojans needed considering they were shut out in their previous game.

Jack Drake was a major factor no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, pitching three innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. Drake was also big at the plate, earning one RBI, two runs, and two stolen bases. Those two stolen bases gave him a new career-high.

In other batting news, the team relied heavily on Jack Stephens, who went 2-for-4 with four RBI, one run, and one double. Those four RBI gave him a new career-high. Perry Phillips also deserves some recognition as he got his first hit of the season.

Meanwhile, Los Molinos suffered their closest defeat since March 12, 2024 on Friday. They fell just short of Maxwell by a score of 4-2. The contest marked the Bulldogs' lowest-scoring matchup so far this season.

Durham has been performing well recently as they've won seven of their last nine games. That's provided a nice bump to their 11-6 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.6 runs over those games. As for Los Molinos, their loss dropped their record down to 15-5.

Durham skirted past Los Molinos 6-5 when the teams last played last Thursday. The rematch might be a little tougher for the Trojans since the team won't have the home-field advantage this time around. We'll see if the change in venue makes a difference.
