Baseball Recap: East Bay Has No Trouble Against Plant City

East Bay barely beat Plant City the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The East Bay Indians put the hurt on the Plant City Raiders with a sharp 8-1 win on Thursday. The Indians might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won four games by seven runs or more this season.

East Bay got a great performance from Mike Mowell as he didn't allow a single earned run and allowed only one hit while striking out nine over five innings pitched.

At the plate, East Bay let Rory Beauford and Connor Gavigan run wild. Beauford scored two runs while going 3-for-3, while Gavigan scored a run and stole a base while getting on base in all four of his plate appearances. Beauford is becoming a predictor of East Bay's success: when he posts at least two runs the team is undefeated (and 2-5 when he doesn't). Another player making a difference was Jeffrey Diab, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.

East Bay was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .423. The last time their batting average was this high was back in April of 2024.

East Bay has been performing well recently as they've won five of their last six matches. That's provided a nice bump to their 5-5 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 3.3 runs on average over those games. Plant City's defeat was their third straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 5-5.

Looking ahead, East Bay will head out to take on Riverview at 7:00 p.m. on Tuesday. As for Plant City, they will host Armwood at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. Plant City's pitching crew has only allowed 3.4 runs per game this season, so Armwood's hitters will have their work cut out for them.
