Volleyball Game Preview: Webster Groves Statesmen vs. Marquette Mustangs

Webster Groves is 1-7-1 against Marquette since September of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Monday. The Statesmen will be playing at home against the Mustangs at 5:30 p.m. Webster Groves will be strutting in after a victory while Marquette will be coming in after a defeat.

On Thursday, Webster Groves beat Mehlville 3-1. The win continues a trend for the Statesmen in their matchups with the Panthers: they've now won four in a row.

Webster Groves was especially dominant in the third set. The match finished with set scores of 25-18, 19-25, 25-15, 25-18.

Meanwhile, Marquette faced Lafayette in a battle between two of the state's top teams on Tuesday. The Mustangs lost 3-0 to the Lancers. The loss continues a trend for the Mustangs in their meetings with the Lancers: they've now lost six in a row.

While Marquette was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the second set. The final score came out to 25-16, 25-22, 25-21.

Webster Groves' victory bumped their record up to 10-13-1. As for Marquette, their defeat dropped their record down to 13-11.
