Recap: Weslaco East Wildcats vs. Vela Sabercats
Two teams were on the hunt for playoff glory, but unfortunately for the Weslaco East Wildcats, they weren't the ones who walked away with it. They were the victim of a rough 31-9 loss at the hands of Vela on Friday. The low total for Weslaco East limited their streak of high-flying scores to three in a row.
Alex Martinez threw for 91 yards on six of 18 attempts. Margarito Pompa was his top target, picking up 51 receiving yards.
Jamal Polley was his usual excellent self, rushing for 213 yards and two touchdowns while picking up 7.3 yards per carry. Polley hasn't dropped below two rushing touchdowns for six straight games.
Weslaco East's loss dropped their record down to 6-5. As for Vela, the win was the sixth in a row for them, bringing their record for this year to 10-1.
Weslaco East does not have any more games scheduled as of now. Vela's homestand continues as they prepare to take on Miller at 7:00 p.m. on November 17th. Miller is also coming in off of a big victory, so somebody is in for a big reversal of fortune.
