Baseball Recap: Starks Wins Going Away Against Abbeville

It was a proper cat-fight when Starks faced off against Abbeville on Saturday. The Panthers were the clear victors by an 18-8 margin over the Wildcats. That's two games straight that the Panthers have won by exactly ten runs.

Cody Harrison made a splash while hitting and pitching. He struck out nine batters over 4.1 innings while giving up just two earned (and three unearned) runs off two hits. That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in February. He was also stellar in the batter's box, scoring three runs while getting on base in all five of his plate appearances. He has become a key player for Starks: the team is 3-1 when he posts at least two runs, but 4-11 otherwise.

In other batting news, Brock Barlow was incredible, getting on base in four of his five plate appearances with four RBI and two runs. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March. Another player making a difference was Jude Stanley, who scored two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances.

Starks always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .689. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.

The win made it two in a row for Starks and bumps their season record up to 7-12. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.5 runs over those games. As for Abbeville, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 8-15.

Coincidentally, Starks and Abbeville will both be playing Midland the next time they take the field. The Panthers will head out to face the Rebels at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Wildcats will play them later in the day, at 11:00 p.m.
