Baseball Game Preview: Coastal Academy Stingrays vs. Lincoln Hornets

The Coastal Academy Stingrays will head out to face off against the Lincoln Hornets at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. Keep an eye on the score for this one: the two teams posted some lofty run totals in their previous games.

Coastal Academy was handed a heart-breaking two-run loss in their last game, but they sure didn't let that happen against Crawford on Wednesday. The Stingrays blew past the Colts 12-4. The result was nothing new for the Stingrays, who have now won four contests by eight runs or more so far this season.

Jayce Costephens was excellent, scoring two runs while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances. Coastal Academy is undefeated when Costephens posts two or more runs, but 1-6 otherwise. The team also got some help courtesy of Ethan De La Cruz, who went 2-for-4 with one double.

Coastal Academy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .553. They are 3-1 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Meanwhile, winning is always nice, but doing so behind a season-high score is even better (just ask Lincoln). They were the clear victors by a 19-1 margin over Eldorado on Wednesday. Perhaps unsurprisingly given the team's high-flying offense, the game also marked the team's biggest victory of the season.

The win was the third in a row for Lincoln, bringing their record up to 6-6. The victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 11.0 runs over those games. As for Coastal Academy, the win snapped their losing streak at three games and leaves them with a 6-6 record.

Coastal Academy couldn't quite get it done against Lincoln in their previous matchup back in May of 2023 as they fell 4-1. Can the Stingrays avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
