Baseball Preview: Independence Bulldogs vs. Parsons Vikings

The Independence Bulldogs will look to defend their home field on Monday against the Parsons Vikings at 4:30 p.m. Independence is strutting in with some hitting muscle, as they've averaged 7.2 runs per game this season.

Independence is hoping to deliver their fans another blowout on Monday, just like they did against Baxter Springs (and have done all season long). Independence blew past Baxter Springs 11-3. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for Independence considering their one-run performance the matchup before.

Brady Palmer made a splash no matter where he played. On the mound, he struck out six batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and two unearned) runs off seven hits. Palmer was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-4 with four RBI.

In other batting news, Bryson Felton and Brock Sanders did most of the damage at the plate: Felton scored two runs and stole a base while getting on base in four of his five plate appearances, while Sanders went 5-for-5 with two RBI. Kellen Lanning was another key contributor, going 2-for-3 with three RBI and a triple.

Meanwhile, Parsons fell victim to a tough 11-4 defeat at the hands of Chanute on Tuesday. Parsons has now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
