Softball Recap: Make It Four in a Row for Lovejoy

Lovejoy came tearing into Tuesday's game with three straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 7.3 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They put the hurt on the Morrow Mustangs with a sharp 19-6 win. Considering the Wildcats have won five contests by more than eight runs this season, Tuesday's blowout was nothing new.

Taylin Freeman was a major factor while hitting and pitching. She struck out eight batters over four innings while giving up five earned (and one unearned) runs off five hits. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than eight strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also solid in the batter's box, going 1-for-3 with one home run and two runs.

In other batting news, Lovejoy got a massive performance out of Kerri McGhee, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with six stolen bases, three runs, and two RBI. Those six stolen bases gave McGhee a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Dariana Taylor, who got on base in three of her four plate appearances with two stolen bases, four RBI, and two runs.

Lovejoy always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .688. They are a perfect 6-0 when they post an OBP of .513 or better.

Lovejoy's victory bumped their record up to 7-5. As for Morrow, they are on a three-game losing streak that has dropped them down to 1-13.

Coming up, Lovejoy will square off against Tucker at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday. As for Morrow, they will welcome Langston Hughes at 6:00 p.m. on Thursday. The Mustangs' pitchers better be ready for this one: the Panthers have averaged an impressive 9.9 runs per game this season.
