Basketball Recap: Monarch Triumphs

On Tuesday, the Monarch Coyotes were able to grind out a solid victory over the Frederick Golden Eagles, taking the game 68-60. The win made it back-to-back victories for the Coyotes.

Monarch had a senior duo take command as Riley Montemayor almost dropped a double-double on 17 points and nine boards and Logan Laverty posted 18 points along with seven assists and six rebounds. The game was Laverty's ninth in a row with at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Dylan Ehrnstrom, who went 5 of 11 en route to 12 points and eight rebounds.

Several Golden Eagles players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Olly Justice, who went 5 for 12 on his way to 13 points and five blocks. Those five blocks gave Justice a new career-high. Sonny Delpizzo also deserves some recognition as he pulled down his first board of the season.

Monarch's win bumped their record up to 9-7. As for Frederick, they dropped their record down to 7-9 with the defeat, which was their fifth straight on the road.

Monarch has already played their next match, a 70-69 victory against Broomfield on the 31st. As for Frederick, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next contest, a 59-51 win against Silver Creek on the 30th.
