Softball Game Preview: Newport Grizzlies vs. Riverside Rams

Newport is 1-9 against Riverside since April of 2019 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Thursday. Newport will welcome Riverside at 4:00 p.m. Having both just faced considerable losses, both teams are looking to turn things around.

Newport's last matchup with Northwest Christian School could've gone either way, but unfortunately the same can't be said for the pair's matchup on Tuesday. Newport lost 11-2 to Northwest Christian School. The loss put an end to the Grizzlies' undefeated start to the season.

Newport saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Grace Parry, who went 1-for-2 with one home run.

Meanwhile, Riverside fell victim to Coeur d'Alene and their airtight pitching crew on Saturday. They came up short against the Vikings, falling 13-0. The Rams' loss continues a trend for the team, making it three in a row.

Having lost for the first time this season, Newport fell to 2-1. As for Riverside, their defeat dropped their record down to 0-3.

Newport might still be hurting after the 13-5 loss they got from Riverside in their previous meeting back in April of 2024. Can Newport avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
