Basketball Recap: Wilkes Central Eagles vs. North Iredell Raiders
Wilkes Central unfortunately couldn't capitalize on their home-court advantage in their season opener. They lost 72-52 to the North Iredell Raiders on Tuesday. The Eagles were not able to make up for their defeat to the Raiders from their previous meeting back in December of 2019.
When it comes to explaining why Wilkes Central lost, don't look at Jordan Parks. Despite the final result, he posted 17 points and five rebounds. Jordan Denny was another key player, putting up six points and five boards.
North Iredell got their victory on the backs of several key players, but it was Connor Ward out in front who went 7-for-16 to rack up 19 points in addition to eight assists and five rebounds. The team also got some help courtesy of Kaden Zachary, who shot 60% from the field en route to 16 points.
Wilkes Central wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next contest, a 57-55 loss against West Iredell on the 21st. As for North Iredell, they also didn't take long to hit the court again: they've already played their next game, a 69-66 win against East Rowan on the 25th.
