Soccer Recap: Civic Memorial Takes a Loss

There was early excitement for Civic Memorial after they claimed the first goal on Saturday, however, they wouldn't score again. They took a 3-1 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Father McGivney Catholic Griffins. While losing is never fun, Civic Memorial can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Illinois soccer rankings (they are ranked 188th, while Father McGivney Catholic are ranked eighth).

Civic Memorial has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last seven games. That's put a noticeable dent in their 2-9 record this season. As for Father McGivney Catholic, the victory keeps they at an undefeated 11-0.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. Civic Memorial will challenge Marquette Catholic at 6:00 p.m. on Monday. As for Father McGivney Catholic, they will take on Mater Dei at 4:30 p.m. on Monday. Father McGivney Catholic are facing Mater Dei at the right time seeing as Mater Dei are stuck on a three-game losing streak.
