After a string of eight wins, Trico's good fortune finally ran out on Tuesday. They fell 2-0 to the Vienna Eagles. The Pioneers were given a dose of their own medicine in this game as the Eagles apparently hadn't forgotten their loss the last time these teams played back in October of 2024.
While Trico was not able to make it on the board, they still kept things close, especially in the first set. Once all was said and done, the final score wound up at 25-22, 25-19.
Hazel Helmers paced Trico's offense, picking up seven kills. Helmers got some help from Molly Rathert and her 16 assists. Finally, Helmers was also a dominant defender, finishing with a team-high four blocks.
Trico's defeat was their first in the conference, dropping their conference record down to 5-1 and their overall record down to 18-6. As for Vienna, the win (which was their fourth in a row) raised their record to 14-2.
Trico wasted no time getting back out on the court and has already played their next match, a 2-0 victory against New Athens on the 4th. As for Vienna, they have also already played their next matchup, a 2-1 win against Sesser-Valier on the 2nd.
