Football Recap: Alvord Piles Up the Points Against Wolfe City

Alvord extended their winning streak to six on Friday, bumping them up to 8-2. They claimed a resounding 62-28 win over the Wolfe City Wolves. The Bulldogs might be getting used to big wins seeing as the team has won six games by 34 points or more this season.

Zane Fuentes was his usual excellent self, rushing for 352 yards and six TDs while picking up 18.5 yards per carry. He really tore up the turf during one magnificent 75-yard run. Cutter Hamilton was another major influence, as he rushed for 186 yards and ran in a TD.

Alvord didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Wolfe City to a completion percentage of just 42.9%. The team can thank Rhett Richey for the heroic effort on defense: he. Sadly, that's becoming something of a trend for Alvord; they were averaging 58.8%completion percentage earlier this season, but in their last three contests they've fallen to only 58.8%.

As for Wolfe City, their defeat ended a three-game streak of wins at home and dropped them to 5-5. While losing is never fun, they can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Texas football rankings (they are ranked 785th, while Alvord is ranked 384th).

Wolfe City's loss came despite a true team effort from the offense with many players turning in solid performances. Perhaps the best among them was Hd Davis, who rushed for 127 yards and a pair of touchdowns on only 15 carries. Davis' rushing production has been exceptional for a while as that marked his 21st straight game with at least 110 rushing yards dating back to last season. Wolfe City also got help from Casen Pessel, who showed off his sure hands for 138 receiving yards.

Alvord and Wolfe City are set to take part in some playoff action in their next matches. The Bulldogs will take on Hico at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Wolfe City, they will challenge De Leon at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. The two teams might be coming in a bit winded given these two teams combined for 954 yards in their previous games.
