The Sonora Wildcats will head out to square off against the Hughson Huskies at 4:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
Sonora came up short against Ripon on Friday, falling 10-3. The Wildcats have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.
Sonora saw six different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Tommy Sutton, who scored a run while going 1-for-3.
Meanwhile, Hughson came tearing into Friday's contest with seven straight wins (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 8.4 runs), and they left with even more momentum. They never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 23-0 victory. The Huskies' hitters stepped up their game for this one, as that was the most runs they've scored all season.
Bryce McDaniel was a major factor while hitting and pitching. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out seven batters over three innings while giving up no earned runs or hits (and not a single walk). That's the most strikeouts he has posted since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring two runs and stealing a base while going 3-for-3.
In other batting news, Lawson Aviles and Carlos Guizar did most of the damage at the plate: Aviles got on base in four of his five plate appearances with one home run, four runs, and five RBI, while Guizar went 3-for-5 with four runs, five RBI, and two doubles. That's the most doubles Guizar has posted since back in May of 2024. Karsen Moore was another key player, scoring three runs while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.
Hughson always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .705. That's the best OBP they've posted all season.
Hughson pushed their record up to 14-2 with the win, which was their third straight at home. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 14.7 runs over those games. As for Sonora, their loss dropped their record down to 2-11.
Sonora suffered a grim 11-0 defeat to Hughson in their previous meeting back in February of 2024. Can Sonora avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
