Softball Recap: Western Albemarle Warriors vs. Orange County Fighting Hornets
Western Albemarle hadn't done well against Orange County recently (they were 1-8 in their previous nine matchups), but they didn't let the past get in their way on Tuesday. The Warriors came out on top against the Fighting Hornets by a score of 7-3. For the Warriors, this counts as revenge for the 8-2 victory the Fighting Hornets walked away with the last time they faced one another back in May of 2024.
Katherine Heilman spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on seven hits. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in four consecutive appearances.

On the hitting side, Jillie Clark was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two stolen bases, two runs, and one RBI. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Samia Bird also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.
Western Albemarle's win bumped their record up to 8-5. As for Orange County, their defeat ended a three-game streak of away wins and brought them to 8-5.
We've got plenty of inter-region action coming up soon. Western Albemarle is set to take on their familiar foe Fluvanna County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. Meanwhile, Orange County will square off against rival Louisa County at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (the Fighting Hornets 2.4, the Lions 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.
