On the hitting side, the team relied heavily on Johann Mercado, who scored a run while going 2-for-4. That's the most hits he has posted since back in March. Ayden Miranda was another key player, scoring two runs and stealing a base.
Meanwhile, Winter Springs never let their opponents score on Tuesday. They were the clear victors by an 8-0 margin over Lake Brantley. The result was nothing new for the Bears, who have now won eight matches by seven runs or more so far this season.
Aiden Smarrito tossed a big game, not allowing a single earned run and allowing only one hit over five innings pitched. He has been consistent for a while: he hasn't given up more than two walks any time he's pitched this season.
At the plate, Alex Dameron and Luke Walters did most of the damage at the plate: Dameron scored two runs and stole a base while going 1-for-2, while Walters went 3-for-4 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple was Walters' first of the season. Another player making a difference was Tyler Kenast, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base, two RBI, and one double.
Winter Springs was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .379. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Lake Brantley only posted a batting average of .048.
Winter Springs has been performing incredibly well recently as they've won 16 of their last 17 games. That's provided a nice bump to their 19-4 record this season. Those victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 7.5 runs over those games. As for Timber Creek, their win bumped their record up to 15-7.
The batters for both teams will have to hit smart on Thursday as both have some strikeout artists on the roster. Timber Creek has been retiring batters left and right this season, having averaged 7.4 strikeouts per game. However, it's not like Winter Springs struggles in that department as they've been averaging 8 strikeouts. Considering how easily both teams rack up Ks, the hitters on both teams better bring their A-game into this one.
