Baseball Recap: Marian Catholic Comes Up Short

St. Rita hit Marian Catholic with a five-run seventh inning on Sunday, which goes a long way in explaining the final result. The Spartans fell 7-4 to the Mustangs. Unfortunately, that's the second time they've come up short against the Mustangs this season, as they also lost their prior matchup 7-6 back in April.

Marian Catholic saw eight different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Alex Kvasnicka, who went 1-for-4 with one stolen base, one run, and one RBI.

Marian Catholic has also traveled a rocky road recently, having lost eight of their last ten matchups. That's put a noticeable dent in their 12-22 record this season. As for St. Rita, their win bumped their record up to 14-18.

Marian Catholic and St. Rita could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Illinois Rankings. The Spartans (ranked 256th) will meet Bradley-Bourbonnais (ranked 98th) at 1:00 p.m. on Saturday. Meanwhile, St. Rita will take on Sandburg at 4:30 p.m. on Friday with a big rank disadvantage (154 vs. 29).
