League recap: New Boston extends winning streak with victory over Daingerfield

2A-1 Region II District 8 recap Oct. 9, 2012

New Boston extended the longest winning streak in 2A-1 Region II District 8 this week by beating Daingerfield, 38-37. The victory was the sixth in a row for the Lions.

Hooks moved up to 475 from 561 in the state rankings this week, the biggest jump in the league. A 46-18 win over Queen City helped the Hornets improve their standing.

Mt. Vernon's offense was tough to stop this week, as it produced the league's top passer, rusher and receiver. Daniel Brown threw for 111 and one touchdown and Myrodge McGill had 84 yards receiving. On the ground Kris Ables chipped in 37 yards. Jonathan Barker helped Mt. Vernon's passing attack out by catching three balls for 83 yards.

Mt. Vernon's offense has been unstoppable this season and the Tigers feature the season leaders in passing, rushing and receiving yards. Brown has thrown for 587 yards and six touchdowns this season, while Sakorey Chandler has 22 catches for 379 yards. Ables leads the league in rushing with 384 yards.

A big matchup in 2A-1 Region II District 8 this week will be when the Bulldogs take on Prairiland. Queen City is currently in fourth, while the Patriots are in third.

Hooks made the biggest jump in the national rankings this week, rising to 4,774 from 5,687. The improvement came about via a 46-18 victory over Bradley Richardson's team last week.
