Basketball Recap: Del Norte Extends Winning Streak to Three

Del Norte lost to Francis Parker two weeks ago, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Friday. The Del Norte Nighthawks skirted past the Francis Parker Lancers 61-58. The victory was all the more spectacular given the Nighthawks' disadvantage in MaxPreps' California basketball rankings (they are ranked 483rd, while the Lancers are ranked 74th).

Tavid Johnson and Amon Andrews certainly did their best on Friday to avoid the loss. Johnson posted 25 points in addition to seven rebounds and three steals, while Andrews went 5 of 8 on his way to 20 points along with eight boards and six assists. That was a full 43.1% of Francis Parker's points, marking the fourth time in a row he's had more than a third of the team's points. The team also got some help courtesy of Niccolo Whitchurch, who put up five points.

The win was the third in a row for Del Norte, bringing their record for this year to 8-10. Those victories came thanks to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 63.7 points per game. As for Francis Parker, they moved to 11-5 with that defeat, which also ended their seven-game winning streak.

Del Norte will get to enjoy the win for a while: their next game is against San Marcos at 7:00 p.m. on January 14th. As for Francis Parker, they will venture away from home to challenge Roosevelt at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday.
