Volleyball Recap: Cardinal Newman Makes It Four in a Row on the Road

It was a proper cat-fight when Cardinal Newman took on Lexington on Thursday. The Cardinals walked away with a 2-0 win over the Wildcats. For the Cardinals, this counts as revenge for the 3-2 victory the Wildcats walked away with the last time they faced one another back in September of 2024.

While Cardinal Newman won a shutout, things came down to the wire in the second set they played. The match finished with set scores of 25-19, 25-22.

Leila Hargrove paced Cardinal Newman's offense, picking up nine kills. Hargrove got some help from Lauren Rivers and her 20 assists. Rivers also made an impact serving: she shared the team lead in aces with Emily Cantey, racking up two apiece.

Cardinal Newman's win was their fourth straight on the road dating back to last season, which pushed their record up to 6-1. As for Lexington, their loss ended a ten-game streak of wins at home dating back to last season and dropped them to 2-5.

Coincidentally, Cardinal Newman and Lexington will both be playing Clover the next time they take the court. The Cardinals will head out to face the Blue Eagles at 6:30 p.m. on Thursday, while the Wildcats will play them later in the day, at 7:30 p.m.
