Marin Catholic barely beat Tamalpais the last time the pair played, but that sure wasn't the case this time around. The Wildcats put the hurt on the Red Tailed Hawks with a sharp 10-3 win on Thursday. Malliah Foster spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned (and one unearned) runs on nine hits and racked up eight Ks. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances.
At the plate, Anna Held was a standout: she scored two runs and stole two bases while going 3-for-4. Those two stolen bases gave her a new career-high. Another player making a difference was Morgan Carlson, who scored a run and stole a base while going 2-for-4.
Marin Catholic was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .484. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .484 or higher in three consecutive contests.
Meanwhile, Lowell has relied on a stalwart pitcher averaging 2.78 runs allowed per game, but that average took a hit last Wednesday. They fell 10-5 to Sacred Heart Cathedral Preparatory. The Cardinals' loss signaled the end of their five-game winning streak.
Lowell also let their pitcher toss all seven innings and she was also dialed-in: Kaylee Kline gave up just two earned (and eight unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up 11 Ks.
On the hitting side, Sophie Duncan was cooking despite her team's loss, scoring two runs and stealing four bases while going 1-for-2. Alyssa Belogorsky was another key player, going 1-for-4 with one home run.
Marin Catholic's victory was their third straight at home, which pushed their record up to 7-3. The home wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 12.0 runs over those games. As for Lowell, their defeat dropped their record down to 6-3.
Monday's matchup might come down to which pitcher can control the ball better. Marin Catholic has hit smart this season, having averaged an OBP of .575.
