Basketball Recap: Republic Takes a Loss

Republic lost against Northport two weeks ago and unfortunately they wound up with the same result on Saturday. The Republic Tigers lost 74-53 to the Northport Mustangs. While losing is never fun, the Tigers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' Washington basketball rankings (they are ranked 278th, while the Mustangs are ranked 134th).

Despite the defeat, Republic saw an underclassman step up: freshman Iman Abdallah went 6 of 10 from beyond the arc on his way to 20 points. As a matter of fact, that's the most points Abdallah has scored all season. Landon Short was another key player, putting up 12 points in addition to seven boards and five assists.

This is the second loss in a row for Republic and nudges their season record down to 11-9. As for Northport, their victory was their eighth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 15-3.

Republic does not have any more games scheduled as of now. As for Northport, they will look to defend their home court on Wednesday against Cusick at 7:30 p.m.
