Football Recap: Plains Cowboys vs. Crosbyton Chiefs
The third road game was the charm for Plains, as they earned their first road win of the season. They really took it to the Crosbyton Chiefs for the full four quarters, racking up a 57-30 win on the road. The Cowboys pushed the score to 50-22 by the end of the third, a deficit the Chiefs cut but never quite recovered from.
Gavin Broome was his usual excellent self, rushing for 135 yards and three touchdowns while picking up 7.5 yards per carry, and also throwing for 221 yards and five touchdowns. He showed off some serious burst, cutting through the defense on one rush that went for 55 yards. Brandon Cantu was in the mix too, providing Plains with two touchdowns.
Plains wouldn't let Crosbyton keep a hold of the ball as they managed to force two fumbles. Plains can thank Blake Wilson and Jonathan Badillo for forcing both of them. Badillo also set a new season high mark in total tackles with 15.
The victory got Plains back to even at 2-2. As for Crosbyton, their loss was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season, which dropped their record down to 1-3.
Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Plains will square off against Sudan at 7:00 p.m. on Friday. As for Crosbyton, they will have plenty of time to ponder what went wrong as they've got a bye scheduled next week. After, they'll take on Olney at 7:00 p.m. on October 4th.
