South Portland and Falmouth are an even 5-5 against one another since June of 2016, but likely not for long. The Red Riots will head out to take on the Navigators at 4:30 p.m. on Tuesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (South Portland 1.1, Falmouth 1.1) so any runs scored will be well earned.
South Portland lost a heartbreaker the last time they played Windham, but it's fair to say they got their revenge given the result of Saturday's contest. The Red Riots' pitchers stepped up to hand the Eagles a 10-0 shutout on Saturday. That ten run margin sets a new team best for the Red Riots this season.
Shea Healy looked comfortable as he pitched one inning while giving up no earned runs or hits.
On the hitting side, Hudson Iacuessa was incredible, going a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Another player making a difference was Jude Charltray, who went a perfect 2-for-2 with two runs, one stolen base, and one double.
South Portland always had someone on base and finished the game having posted an OBP of .517. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Windham only posted an OBP of .278.
Meanwhile, Falmouth came out on top against Noble on Saturday by a score of 1-0 (the very same score they lost by in their prior game). The win continues a trend for the Navigators in their matchups with the Knights: they've now won four in a row.
The team relied heavily on Tyler Simmons, who went 3-for-4 with one stolen base, one double, and one RBI. That's the most hits he has posted since back in April of 2024. Caden Berry also deserves some recognition as he snagged his first stolen base of the season.
South Portland pushed their record up to 7-1 with the victory, which was their sixth straight at home dating back to last season. Those home wins came thanks in part to their pitching effort, having only surrendered 0.2 runs on average over those games. As for Falmouth, the victory got them back to even at 4-4-1.
South Portland might still be hurting after the 19-12 defeat they got from Falmouth in their previous meeting back in June of 2024. Can the Red Riots avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
