Baseball Recap: Illinois Valley Central Now 6-2 over Last Eight Games

Illinois Valley Central won the last time they faced Brimfield and things went their way on Saturday too. The Grey Ghosts came out on top against the Indians by a score of 13-10. The high-flying hitting performance was a huge turnaround for the Grey Ghosts considering their two-run performance the match before.

Keegan Schol made a splash no matter where he played. He looked comfortable on the mound, striking out six batters over five innings while giving up just two earned (and four unearned) runs off three hits. He has been consistent recently: he hasn't tossed less than six strikeouts in three consecutive appearances. He was also solid in the batter's box, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with two runs, one stolen base, and one RBI. That's the most runs he has posted since back in March.

In other batting news, Brynden Coventry was incredible, getting on base in three of his five plate appearances with one home run, two runs, and two RBI. That home run was his first of the season. Another player making a difference was Sam Griggs, who went 2-for-5 with two runs and two RBI.

Illinois Valley Central kept the outfield on their toes and finished the game with 14 hits. That's a new trend for them: they were averaging 5.2 hits per game earlier this season, but in their last 15 contests they've averaged 10.4.

Illinois Valley Central is on a roll lately: they've won six of their last eight games. That's provided a nice bump to their 10-6 record this season. Those wins came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 8.6 runs over those games. As for Brimfield, with the defeat, they broke their seven-game winning streak and moved their record to 12-4-1.

Coincidentally, Illinois Valley Central and Brimfield will both be playing Illini West the next time they take the field. The Grey Ghosts will head out to face the Chargers at 12:00 p.m. on Saturday, while the Indians will play them later in the day, at 2:00 p.m.
