Softball Recap: Middle Creek Has No Trouble Against Panther Creek

Middle Creek lost to Panther Creek back in May of 2024, but they didn't allow them the same satisfaction on Tuesday. The Mustangs blew past the Catamounts 12-2. The result was nothing new for the Mustangs, who have now won four contests by seven runs or more so far this season.

Hailey Hoeft spent all six innings played on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered just two earned runs on seven hits and racked up 13 Ks. She has been nothing but reliable: she hasn't given up more than two walks in nine consecutive appearances.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Kennedy Johnson, who scored two runs and stole a base while going 3-for-4. The dominant performance also gave her a new career-high in RBI (three). Chloe Smith also deserves some recognition as she hit her first triple of the season.

Middle Creek was getting hits left and right and finished the game having posted a batting average of .407. That was just more of the same: they've now posted a batting average of .389 or higher in four consecutive games.

Middle Creek pushed their record up to 5-6 with the win, which was their third straight at home. The home victories came thanks in part to their hitting performance across that stretch, as they averaged 13.7 runs over those games. As for Panther Creek, they have traveled a rocky road recently, having lost six of their last eight matches. That's put a noticeable dent in their 4-7 record this season.
