Basketball Recap: Mishawaka Marian's Losing Streak Snapped at Seven Games

Mishawaka Marian needed a changed in momentum after dropping seven straight games and they got it from Kariya Byer. The Mishawaka Marian Knights were the clear victor by a 45-24 margin over the New Prairie Cougars on Thursday thanks in part to Byer, who dropped a double-double on 18 points and 18 boards. She is on a roll when it comes to boards, as she's now pulled down nine or more in the last three games she's played.

The team also got some help courtesy of Kendall Bradley, who posted 11 points along with five boards and five steals. The dominant performance gave her a new career-high in steals.

Several Cougars players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Addi Luther, who put up four points and three steals.

Mishawaka Marian's victory was their first in the conference, bumping their conference record up to 1-5 and their overall record up to 4-12. As for New Prairie, their loss was their seventh straight on the road, which dropped their record down to 2-16.

Both squads are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Mishawaka Marian will welcome Elkhart Christian Academy at 7:30 p.m. on Tuesday. As for New Prairie, they will look to defend their home court on January 17th against Penn at 6:30 p.m.
