Basketball Recap: Rocky Mountain Prep SMART Takes a Loss

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART played a tough match on Wednesday in which they were outscored in every quarter. They were dealt a 75-45 loss at the hands of the DSST: Cedar Falcons. The Ocelotls were down 54-25 at the end of the third quarter, and things only got worse from there.

When it comes to explaining why Rocky Mountain Prep SMART lost, don't look at Xavier Galvan. Despite the final result, he went 9 for 19 on his way to 26 points and three steals. The contest was Galvan's fourth in a row with at least ten points. Saul Molina was another key player, putting up two points and seven boards.

DSST: Cedar had a senior duo take command as Isaac Jaquette went 6 of 9 en route to 16 points and eight rebounds and Matt Stophel dropped a double-double on 11 points and 20 boards. Stophel is crushing it when it comes to rebounds: he's pulled down at least nine every time he's taken the court this season. Another player making a difference was Semahje Kalanda, who went 5 for 10 on his way to 13 points and seven boards.

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART has been struggling recently as they've lost eight of their last nine games, which put a noticeable dent in their 3-9 record this season. As for DSST: Cedar, the win snapped their losing streak at four games and leaves them with a 4-7 record.

Rocky Mountain Prep SMART will welcome Lincoln at 6:30 p.m. on Friday. As for DSST: Cedar, they will host Manual at 7:30 p.m. on Friday. One thing working in Manual's favor is that they have posted at least 55 points in their last five matches.
