Basketball Game Preview: Wesleyan Christian Academy Trojans vs. Cannon Cougars

Wesleyan Christian Academy hasn't had much luck against Cannon recently, but that could start to change on Saturday. The Wesleyan Christian Academy Trojans will take on the Cannon Cougars at 3:00 p.m. Wesleyan Christian Academy knows how to get points on the board -- the team has finished with 55 points or more in their past 12 matches -- so hopefully Cannon likes a good challenge.

Last Tuesday, Wesleyan Christian Academy strolled past Providence Day with points to spare, taking the game 66-52. The Trojans pushed the score to 52-32 by the end of the third, a deficit the Chargers cut but never quite recovered from.

Wesleyan Christian Academy found their leader in freshman Cooper Cox, who posted 17 points. The game was Cox's third in a row with at least 17 points. Sara Kate Carr was another key player, going 6-for-9 en route to 12 points.

Wesleyan Christian Academy was working as a unit and finished the game with 20 assists. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Providence Day only racked up six assists.

Meanwhile, with a playoff win on the line, Cannon rose to the challenge on Tuesday. They came out on top against the Eagles by a score of 54-45. Given the Cougars' advantage in MaxPreps' basketball rankings in their respective home states (they are ranked fourth in North Carolina, while the Eagles are ranked 42nd in Georgia), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Wesleyan Christian Academy is on a roll lately: they've won 11 of their last 12 contests, which provided a nice bump to their 25-6 record this season. The wins came thanks in part to their offensive performance across that stretch, as they averaged 66.7 points over those games. As for Cannon, their win was their eighth straight at home, which pushed their record up to 25-7.

Wesleyan Christian Academy came up short against Cannon when the teams last played back in November of 2024, falling 62-52. Can Wesleyan Christian Academy avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
