Baseball Game Preview: Elk Rapids Elks vs. St. Francis Gladiators

Elk Rapids hasn't had much luck against St. Francis recently, but that could start to change on Wednesday. The Elks will head out on the road to challenge the Gladiators at 4:15 p.m. Elk Rapids has given up an average of 7 runs per game this season, but Wednesday's game will give them a chance to turn things around.

Elk Rapids is headed into Wednesday's game looking for a big change in momentum after dropping their third straight game on Saturday. They came up short against Freeland, falling 14-3. On the bright side, the three- run performance marked the Elks' highest-scoring contest to date.

Meanwhile, St. Francis fell victim to Traverse City Central and their airtight pitching crew on Wednesday. They took a 4-0 hit to the loss column at the hands of the Trojans. Having soared to a lofty 12 runs in the game before, the Gladiators' shutout was a dramatic turnaround.

St. Francis saw three different players step up and record at least one hit. One of them was Sam Wildfong, who went 1-for-3 with one stolen base.

Elk Rapids' loss dropped their record down to 1-3. As for St. Francis, their defeat dropped their record down to 5-2.

Elk Rapids couldn't quite finish off St. Francis in their previous matchup back in May of 2024 and fell 2-0. Can the Elks avenge their loss or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
