Lathrop had already won two in a row (a stretch where they outscored their opponents by an average of 19 points) and they went ahead and made it three on Monday. They walked away with a 19-12 victory over the Central Valley Hawks. Given the Spartans' advantage in MaxPreps' California flag football rankings (they are ranked 166th, while the Hawks are ranked 360th) , the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Lathrop got their win on the backs of several key players, but it was JaLeiyah Ray out in front who rushed for 70 yards on only five carries, and also caught one touchdown. Ray's longest rush was for an impressive 55 yards, which helps to explain her lofty yards per carry total.

Lathrop didn't let much get past them through the air: they limited Central Valley to a completion percentage of just 45.5%. The team can thank Morgan Hegler for the heroic effort on defense: she. Lathrop has been improving in that area: they had allowed a completion percentage of 0.59 earlier this season, but they've only allowed one of 0.59 in their last three games.

Although Central Valley took the loss, they still got scores from Mekenzie Buenrostro and Ayleen Apreza.

Lathrop's record now sits at 16-3. As for Central Valley, their defeat ended a four-game streak of away wins and brought them to 14-8.
