Baseball Recap: Ellicott Thunderhawks vs. Calhan Bulldogs
Ellicott had lost 11 straight on the road dating back to last season, but on Tuesday they dropped their record down to 3-12-1 to make it 12. They fell just short of the Calhan Bulldogs by a score of 17-16. Even if the Thunderhawks couldn't come away with the victory, the high-scoring effort was a great turnaround for their hitters, which had struggled int the games prior.
Diego DelaRiva stepped up to lead a balanced group of hitters: he went 3-for-4 with four runs, three RBI, and one double. The team also got some help courtesy of Asher Sample, who went 3-for-5 with five RBI, one run, and one double.
As for Calhan, their win ended a 15-game drought at home dating back to last season and bumped them up to 3-10-2. For those keeping track at home, that's the closest victory they have posted since March 25th.
On Calhan's side, Liam Metzger was incredible, getting on base in all five of his plate appearances with three stolen bases and four runs. Those four runs gave Metzger a new career-high. Justin Fader also deserves some recognition as he brought in his first RBI of the season.
Coming up, Ellicott will be playing at home against Colorado Springs Christian at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Thunderhawks are facing the Lions at the right time seeing as the Lions are stuck on a seven-game losing streak. As for Calhan, they will welcome Simla at 10:00 a.m. on Saturday. The Cubs' pitching crew has only allowed 3.9 runs per game this season, so the Bulldogs' hitters will have their work cut out for them.
