Baseball Recap: William Campbell Comes Up Short

William Campbell had lost ten straight at home dating back to last season, but on Wednesday they dropped their record down to 1-9 to make it 11. They fell 7-2 to the Appomattox County Raiders. Having soared to a lofty 13 runs in the game before, the Generals couldn't push the score so high this time.

As for Appomattox County, they now have a winning record of 6-5. They haven't had any issues with William Campbell recently, as the game was their fourth consecutive victory against them.

For Appomattox County's part, Owen Chavis spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: he surrendered two runs (both of which were unearned) on three hits and racked up nine Ks.

On the hitting side, Sam Ferguson was excellent, going 1-for-4 with two runs, two RBI, and one double. Those two runs gave him a new career-high. The team also got some help courtesy of Jack Wilkerson, who went 1-for-4 with four stolen bases and one run.

Both teams will have to hit the road in their upcoming games. William Campbell will face off against Dan River at 5:30 p.m. on Friday. As for Appomattox County, they will square off against Randolph-Henry at 5:30 p.m. on Thursday. The Statesmen will roll in looking for their fourth straight win, something the Raiders surely won't give up without a fight.
