Basketball Recap: Buckhannon-Upshur's Losing Streak Is a Thing of the Past

Buckhannon-Upshur needed a changed in momentum after dropping four straight games and they got it from Alyssa Abel. The Buckhannon-Upshur Buccaneers came out on top in a nail-biter against the Elkins Tigers on Tuesday, sneaking past 45-42 for which the team can thank Abel, who dropped a double-double with 27 points and 15 boards. That makes it six consecutive games in which she has scored at least a third of Buckhannon-Upshur's points.

The team also got some help courtesy of Brooklyn Smith, who posted six points and three steals. She continues to improve, besting her previous point total in each of the last three games she's played.

Elkins lost despite a true team effort on offense. The best among them was Maddie Belan, who put up 17 points. That was a full 40.5% of Elkins' points, marking the fifth time in a row Belan has had more than a third of the team's points. Another player making a difference was Madi Zirkle, who scored six points and three steals.
