Football Recap: Hunters Lane Warriors vs. Stratford Spartans
After having lost a blowout in their previous game against Battle Ground Academy, Hunters Lane was happy to have turned things around on Thursday. They breezed by the Stratford Spartans on the road to the tune of 48-12. The high-flying offensive performance was a huge turnaround for the Warriors considering their eight-point performance the matchup before.
It was another big night for Isaiah Mcgill, who rushed for 185 yards and four touchdowns while picking up 8.4 yards per carry. The team also got some help courtesy of Marcion Walton, who rushed for 118 yards and a touchdown.
Hunters Lane didn't go easy on the quarterback and picked off two passes before the game was over. The picks came courtesy of Jawuan Scott and Mcgill. Another thorn in Stratford's side was Chris Kendall, who picked up a sack and made 13 total tackles.
Perhaps unsurprisingly given the score, Hunters Lane was unstoppable on the ground and finished the game with 287 rushing yards. They easily outclassed their opponents in that department as Stratford only rushed for 142.
When it comes to explaining why Stratford lost, don't look at Vantrease White Jr.. Despite the final result, he rushed for 103 yards and a touchdown on only 13 carries. Those 103 rushing yards gave White Jr. a new career-high.
Hunters Lane's victory ended an eight-game drought on the road dating back to last season and puts them at 2-5. As for Stratford, they now have a losing record at 3-4.
After each having a week off, Hunters Lane and Springfield will dust off their jerseys to challenge one another at 7:00 p.m. on October 18th.
