Basketball Recap: Liberal Comes Up Short

Liberal was not able to break out of their rough patch on Friday as the team picked up their sixth straight loss. They were outmatched by the Dodge City Demons and fell 81-53. The Redskins were in a tough position after the first half, with the score already sitting at 58-31.

Several Redskins players turned in solid performances despite ultimately coming up short. Perhaps the best among those players was Eathan Hernandez, who almost dropped a double-double on 15 points and nine boards. Hernandez also posted a block, marking his first of the season. Another player making a difference was James Fieser, who went 9 for 18 on his way to 24 points.

Even though they lost, Liberal smashed the offensive glass and finished the game with 12 offensive rebounds. That's the most offensive boards they've posted since back in January of 2024.

Liberal's defeat dropped their record down to 2-8. As for Dodge City, their victory ended a three-game drought at home and bumped them up to 4-5.

Liberal and Dodge City could both be facing uphill battles in their next games considering their disadvantage in the MaxPreps Kansas Rankings. Liberal will challenge Haven at 6:00 p.m. on Tuesday down 255 places (275 vs. 20). Meanwhile, Dodge City (ranked 122nd) will meet Derby (ranked ninth) at 8:00 p.m. on Thursday.
