Softball Game Preview: St. Stephens Indians vs. Foard Tigers

St. Stephens is 2-8 against Foard since March of 2017 but they'll have a chance to close the gap a little bit on Tuesday. The Indians will host the Tigers at 2:00 p.m. The two teams have allowed few runs on average (St. Stephens 3.7, Foard 2.3) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Thursday, St. Stephens needed a bit of extra time to put away North Iredell. They won by a run and slipped past the Raiders 6-5. The win was a breath of fresh air for the Indians as it put an end to their three-game losing streak.

Anicka McFarland made a big impact while hitting and pitching. On the mound, she kept things locked down with no earned runs or hits while striking out 12 over six innings pitched. She has been consistent recently: she hasn't tossed less than ten strikeouts in four consecutive appearances. She was also big at the plate, going a perfect 2-for-2 with three RBI and one double.

McFarland wasn't the only one making solid contact as four players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Kallie Canipe, who went 2-for-3 with three runs. Those three runs gave Canipe a new career-high.

Meanwhile, Foard entered their tilt with West Iredell on Wednesday with four consecutive wins, and they'll enter their next game with five. They never let the Warriors get on the board and left with a 15-0 victory. Considering the Tigers have won seven contests by more than six runs this season, Wednesday's blowout was nothing new.

Foard's win bumped their record up to 10-5. As for St. Stephens, their victory bumped their record up to 8-10.
