Softball Game Preview: Fitch Falcons vs. Stamford Black Knights

The Fitch Falcons will be defending their home field for the first time this season when they go up against the Stamford Black Knights at 4:00 p.m. on Thursday. The two teams each escaped (but just barely!) with wins against their previous opponents.

Fitch is coming home in high spirits after they had to open their season on the road against Ledyard. The Falcons came out on top in a nail-biter against the Colonels on Tuesday, sneaking past 4-3. The win continues a trend for the Falcons in their matchups with the Colonels: they've now won four in a row.

Hailey Merrill spent all seven innings on the mound, and it's clear why: she surrendered only one earned (and two unearned) runs on eight hits and racked up seven Ks.

At the plate, the team relied heavily on Maerin Lyon, who went 1-for-2 with two stolen bases and two RBI. Another player making a difference was Marcella Rentas, who scored two runs while going 2-for-3.

Meanwhile, Stamford narrowly escaped with a victory as the squad sidled past Bunnell 6-5.
