Baseball Game Preview: Cayuga Wildcats vs. Mildred Eagles

The Cayuga Wildcats will face off against the Mildred Eagles at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday. The two teams have allowed few runs on average, (Cayuga 2.5, Mildred 3.2) so any runs scored will be well earned.

On Monday, Cayuga narrowly escaped with a win as the squad sidled past Mildred 8-7.

Gus Wilfong made a splash no matter where he played. He pitched two innings while giving up no earned runs off one hit. What's more, he gave up only one walk, the fewest he's had since back in April of 2024. He was also big at the plate, scoring a run while getting on base in three of his four plate appearances.

Wilfong wasn't the only one making solid contact as five players wound up with at least one hit. One of them was Colt Mullican, who went 2-for-3 with one triple, one run, and one RBI. That triple marked the first that Mullican hit this season. Another was Tyler Turman, who scored a run.

Cayuga's victory bumped their record up to 9-3. As for Mildred, their defeat was their first in the district, dropping their district record down to 2-1 and their overall record down to 9-4.
