Softball Recap: Perry Bluejays vs. Nevada Cubs

Perry had to travel to play their first game of the season, but the final result was worth the trip. They blew past the Nevada Cubs 21-8. That result was just more of the same for these two, as Perry also won the last time the pair played back in June of 2023.

Maci Tunink made a big impact while hitting and pitching. She looked comfortable on the mound, striking out ten batters over seven innings while giving up just one earned (and seven unearned) runs off ten hits (and not a single walk). Tunink was also solid in the batter's box, going 2-for-6 with two doubles and an RBI.

In other batting news, Perry let Kalley Whelchel and Karagyn Whelchel loose on the outfield. Whelchel went 3-for-4 with three runs, four RBI, and a stolen base, while Whelchel scored three runs while going 3-for-5. Another player making a difference was Emmalee Bell, who scored two runs while getting on base in five of her six plate appearances.

Both teams are looking forward to the support of their home crowds in their upcoming games. Perry will take on Roland-Story at 6:00 p.m. on Wednesday. Perry is out to stop a five-game streak of losses at home dating back to last season. Nevada will take on Saydel at 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday.
