Basketball Game Preview: Mayfield Panthers vs. Northville Falcons

Mayfield is 8-2 against Northville since January of 2019 and they'll have a chance to extend that success on Friday. The Mayfield Panthers will face off against the Northville Falcons at 7:00 p.m. Mayfield is strutting in with some offensive muscle as they've averaged 50.4 points per game this season.

Mayfield is headed into the game out to prove that what happened against Berne-Knox-Westerlo on Wednesday (when they were outscored in every quarter) was just a minor bump in the road. Mayfield was dealt a 63-31 loss at the hands of Berne-Knox-Westerlo. While losing is never fun, the Panthers can't take it too hard given the team's big disadvantage in MaxPreps' New York basketball rankings (they are ranked 456th, while the Bulldogs are ranked 188th).

The losing side was boosted by Brianna Iannuzzi, who posted 17 points and three steals. Her evening made it four games in a row in which she has scored at least ten points.

Meanwhile, Northville entered their tilt with Galway on Wednesday with 12 consecutive wins but they'll enter their next game with 13. They took their match with ease, bagging a 74-27 win over the Golden Eagles. The Falcons have made a habit of sweeping their opponents off the court, having now won 14 contests by 23 points or more this season.

Northville's victory was their fifth straight on the road, which pushed their record up to 16-1. Those victories came thanks to their defensive effort, having only surrendered 15.8 points per game. As for Mayfield, this is the second loss in a row for them and nudges their season record down to 9-8.

Mayfield ended up a good deal behind Northville in their previous meeting back in January of 2024, losing 50-31. Can Mayfield avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
