Basketball Game Preview: Somerset Academy Key Lions vs. Calvary Christian Academy Eagles

The Somerset Academy Key Lions just played yesterday, but they'll still head out to face the Calvary Christian Academy Eagles at 7:30 p.m. on Friday.

On Thursday, Somerset Academy Key came up short against American Heritage and fell 53-45. The Lions have now taken an 'L' in back-to-back games.

Meanwhile, Calvary Christian Academy put another one in the bag last Tuesday to keep their perfect season alive. They came out on top against Central by a score of 72-60. Given the Eagles' advantage in MaxPreps' national basketball rankings (they are ranked ninth in Florida, while the Red Devils are ranked 63rd in Alabama), the result wasn't entirely unexpected.

Somerset Academy Key better focus on containing Shon Abaev and Cayden Daughtry as the pair were huge in Calvary Christian Academy's win. Abaev almost dropped a double-double on 28 points and nine rebounds, while Daughtry went 11 of 14 on his way to 31 points. Abaev's evening made it five games in a row in which he has scored at least ten points. The team also got some help courtesy of Sam Hallas, who posted four points.

Somerset Academy Key's loss dropped their record down to 6-8. As for Calvary Christian Academy, their victory bumped their record up to 11-0.

Somerset Academy Key took a serious blow against Calvary Christian Academy when the teams last played back in February of 2019, falling 88-46. Can Somerset Academy Key avenge their defeat or is history doomed to repeat itself? We'll find out soon enough.
